Décor
Artfully inspired is the key idea behind The Salt Exchange, starting with the menu and extending into every aspect of the décor. The seaport exposed brick walls offer a warm counterpoint to the vaulted lime green ceiling, all set against the room’s centerpiece: a cherry bar designed by local artist and MECA professor Jamie Johnston.

Seating
The Salt Exchange offers a 45-seat main dining room, which is available for private parties, and, coming this fall, a four-seat Blind Tasting Chef’s Table, the best seat in the house for adventurous guests who enjoy being part of the kitchen action. Chef’s Table guests not only watch their meals being prepared, but they also have the opportunity to talk to Chef Jasinski and his staff about preparation and ingredients (available by reservation only for up to four guests). In Portland’s warmer months, The Salt Exchange also invites guests to dine at one of three outdoor tables on Commercial Street.

Art
The Salt Exchange exhibits work by a new local artist every three months. Each exhibition represents a cohesive, comprehensive body of work and there is no commission taken for exhibition at The Salt Exchange.
