Description

The beautiful collaborative Ceramic Tile Mirror the Green Mallards created was inspired by an art lesson on abstract painting during P week. The Mallards learned that abstract art, including action painting, emphasized the depiction of emotions rather than objects. They also learned that many of the artists preferred to paint on large canvasses and used dramatic colors.

Our goal was to instill in the children the love of expressing themselves through their art, and to teach them that artists use many styles in their work. We chose to expose the children to abstract art to help them understand that art is a form of expression and does not have to reflect reality; that the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder, and that what we like and create is personal: there is no right or wrong to art.

As a result, the children painted their own ceramic tile while listening to instrumental music. Put together, these tiles made a vibrant frame to the mirror.

We are extremely proud of all their individual creations and final collaborative product!

Love, Ms Brunie and The Green Mallards Teachers: Ms Yukiko and Ms Julliet
