Craig Kane lives and works in New York City.  He grew up in San Diego, California and studied art at UC Berkeley.  While in California, he was influenced by the landscape and large expanses of space around him and he was focused on making large scale paintings.  Moving to New York City in the late 1980's, he began to address ideas and sensations of scale in a different  way.  New York is a vast city, but living spaces and personal spaces are smaller.  He began working more with sculpture and playing with our notions of space and scale,  developing  a body of work in miniature.  Tiny messages pinned onto a wall or set onto a pedestal, Craig asked the viewer to look closely and reconsider the size of our surroundings.  The work is at once humorous and poetic, subtle but dealing with strong issues like sex and love.
