"Momma's Magical Purse" and "Lulu the Big Little Chick" (2010 Children's Choice Book Awards Winner - K to 2nd Grade Book of the Year) by Author/Illustrator Paulette Bogan.

During a family outbreak of chicken pox, Lucille Bogan, Paulette’s mother, encouraged Paulette and her brothers and sisters to paint a mural on the playroom wall! For Paulette, this was the start of something big. She became a humorous artist, enchanting grammar school and high school teachers with her “flattering portraits” of them. This led to a great amount of free time, better known as detention, where Paulette continued to develop her humorous style.
