Description

Original artwork oil on canvas by Erika Jaeggli, dated 2010.

Erika Moravec Jaeggli is a painter who trained in New York City and now calls Austin, TX her home. She paints in oil, on location and in the studio. She is also an instructor at the Austin Museum of Art. Her plein-air paintings tell heuristic narratives through the exploration of natural shapes and colors. Her art is inspired by the natural object, the abstraction of this object, and the true experiences of her life. Her still life oils are studies in extracting the beauty of each object. While attending Columbia University in New York she studied art history, and art under John Currin. She was an assistant to the artist Mark Dion, and worked at Luhring Augustine Gallery. Her strongest influences include Edward Hopper, Richard Diebenkorn, Alice Neel and John Currin.
