“I paused to look at the cityscape for a few minutes on my way back home from Seattle, and I drew the image of the city into my brain.  Once, I dreamed of Seattle at night.  The city always gives me fresh energy because there are so many vibrant things.  Visual impressions and personal memories from the city are the main streams for my work.”  Hyunsung Cho is expressing images of the city from his own emotions and memories and how the city appears in the artificial scenery of out daily lives, through both lines and sceneries.

Cho was born and raised in Korea. He has been working with glass since 1999. He was first introduced to glass when he was attending Namseoul University, Cheonan, Korea. After completing his first master’s degree in glass in 2004 from Kookmin University, Seoul, Korea, he built his own studio for glass blowing in Seoul.  A few years later, he moved to the United States to study aboard. He then received his second master’s in glass in 2010 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His work has been featured in numerous group shows in the US and Korea.

In 2009, Cho was honored with a “Best in Show” at BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass, a collaboration among The Ohio State University Department of Art's Glass Program, OSU Urban Arts Space and Hawk Galleries. This exhibition was sponsored by Steuben Glass.

He has received several scholarships from Pilchuck Glass School, Corning Museum of Glass and Pittsburg Glass Center. Presently, Hyunsung is working at Creative Glass Center of America in Wheaton Arts in Millville, NJ as a resident artist.
