Special Instructions
Emma Varga was born in Ada, in the former Yugoslavia and has lived in Australia since 1995. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in glass design and ceramic sculpture.
She uses a technique which allows her to capture three-dimensional aquarelle-like images in transparent glass. (Aquarelle is a technique of painting in transparent, rather than opaque, watercolors.) To make these objects, she cuts thousands of glass elements from clear and transparent colored glass sheets according to a three- dimensional plan. These multiple layers of glass are fused and polished to create vibrant imagery.
Her work was featured on the cover of GLASS Quarterly in the Winter 2009/2010 issue.
