Item Number: 1061
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
Matt Gonzalez is a San Francisco lawyer and great friend of Jack Micheline having published Micheline's "Sixty-Seven Poems for Downtrodden Saints" (San Francisco: FMSBW, 1997/1999)
Matt is a former President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (Green Party) and was the Vice-presidential running-mate to Ralph Nader in 2008 in the US Presidential election.
A funny story, in October of 2008, while he was in the middle of the US Presidential Campaign as Ralph Nader's running mate, Matt was instrumental to our acquiring some original and priceless Jack Micheline material that is today on exhibit in the Beat Museum. Matt and I had spoken about these items over a period of months, at an event here, a party there.
About a week before the election I got a call - "Hey, Jerry, I've got that Jack Micheline stuff ready to go. Why don't you stop over my place tonight for a glass of wine and we'll go over it."
I said, "Matt, you're running for Vice President. It's a week before the election. Aren't you busy?"
"Well, I'm busy," Matt said, "but I'm not Sarah Palin or Joe Biden busy."
Matt Gonzalez - a true friend of the Beats. Take him to lunch and hear his stories.
