If you think you know and love Oscar Wilde, allow us to introduce you to his pseudonym, C. 3. 3., so chosen to represent cell block C, landing 3, cell 3, Wilde’s cell when he was incarcerated in 1897 for homosexuality. Under that name, Wilde wrote his last work, Ballade de la Geole de Reading (translation: The Ballad of Reading Gaol), a long poem commemorating the harshness of prison life. This copy is from a rare and desirable edition published in Paris by Leon Pichon in 1918. Text in French

Special Instructions

Numbered 115 out of 395, this book is one of 100 copies printed on Imperial Japanese Paper and bound in half black leather with a red embossed design and featuring gilt titles and lettering. The book is in fine condition, with some slight rubbing to the corners, and is housed in a decorative color slipcase. The original receipt from a French booksellers catalog is laid in.
