Be there for the World Premiere of a new American opera, Dark Sisters. Gotham Chamber Opera, in partnership with Music-Theatre Group and the Opera Company of Philadelphia, will present this work by compser Nico Muhly with a libretto by playwright Stephen Karam. Set in the world of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS) Church, the opera follows one woman's dangerous attempt to escape her life as one of five wives of The Prophet, and save her daughter from a similar fate. The composer and librettist were inspired by two famous raids on FLDS compounds in 1952 and 2008, and the opera begins at the point where the mothers are mourning the removal of their children at the hands of the Federal government.
