Promises to Keep: One Man's Journey Against Incredible Odds is a fascinating book by a fascinating man.  Ernest W. Michel begins his story with Kristallnacht and then his confinement in Auschwitz at the age of 15.  He witnessed terrible atrocities including experiments conducted by Joseph Mengele.  After 674 days in Auschwitz he escaped promising to recount what he had witnessed.  He later went on to cover the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial as a reporter, he had a dramatic encounter with Herman Goering, he has raised millions for the UJA, worked with Baron Elie de Rothschild and has organized a worldwide reunion for holocaust survivors.  This book covers a life from one end of the spectrum to another.
