Description

The winning playwright will receive dramaturgical consultation on one
play, including a preliminary conversation to provide the dramaturg
with background on the project, and an in-person meeting to discuss
the script, the playwright's questions, concerns, etc. The playwright
will also receive professional advice, if requested, and a list of
theatres to which the play may be appropriate for submission.

Preparation and consultation will encompass up to 10 hours of the
dramaturg's time.


Dramaturgical script consultation is offered under the auspices of 
Playwrights' Commons, a playwright development organization for
Boston-area artists.


Ilana Brownstein is an internationally recognized, award-winning
dramaturg and specialist in new play development. She was the literary
manager at the Huntington under Nicholas Martin, where she founded the
Huntington Playwriting Fellows program, as well as the Breaking Ground
Festival of New Play Readings. She has commissioned, developed, and
served as production dramaturg to playwrights around the country and
on Broadway, including Lydia R. Diamond, Theresa Rebeck, Mat Smart,
Michael Friedman, Danny Goldstein, Stephen Belber, Naomi Iizuka,
Melinda Lopez, Ronan Noone, and many others. She has adjudicated new
play awards for the National New Play Institute at Arena Stage, the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Eugene O'Neill New Play
Conference, the John Gassner Award, and the Kennedy Center American
College Theatre Festival, among others.
