Description
The Actors’ Gang re-visits Moliere’s Comic Masterpiece to begin its 30th Anniversary Season.
Railed against as a sacrilegious outrage by the Church, Moliere’s Tartuffe was banned from performance by Louis XIV in 1664. But the scintillating scandal of the censored play drew much public attention and it finally received its premiere in 1667, grossing unprecedented box office figures. Still considered a comic masterpiece, it is regarded as one of the funniest plays ever written. As part of The Actors’ Gang’s 30th Anniversary Season, The Gang brings this fast-paced, outrageously funny, farcical romp back to its mainstage.
Now playing, The Actors’ Gang brings back seasoned director and company member Jon Kellam, who directed Tartuffe at The Gang in 2005 to great critical acclaim and a sold-out run, to re-visit David Ball’s adaptation of Moliere’s Tartuffe.
Running through May 14th. Shows run Thursday – Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Theatre located in Culver City.
