The Allen Room
There's a reason why the Roaring 1920s was also known as the jazz age – it was an era when the spirit of swing permeated every facet of American life, from dancing to drinking to politics, and American jazz conquered the world. As part of our salute to Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s newest documentary series, “Prohibition,” the ingenious pianist Bill Charlap leads an all-star group including British jazz chanteuse Claire Martin in a demonstration of how and why the 20s roared in music and song. Featured artists will also include Jeremy Pelt (trumpet), Harry Allen (tenor saxophone), Steve Wilson (alto saxophone), Ken Peplowski (clarinet), Randy Napolean (guitar), Peter Washington (bass), and Kenny Washington (drums).
