Recent hybridizing efforts have  produced a spectacular new accent tree for northern climates. Crimson Frost Birch is a cross between Purple Rain Birch (Betula pendula) and Whitespire Japanese Birch (Betula platyphylla).  The result is a tree with crimson purple leaves and paper white bark.  Plant it in full sun to part shade in moist soils.
