Winemaker Greg Viennois is at the top of his game with this 95% Grenache, 3% Syrah, 2% Mourvedre blend from 90 year old vines. This classic expression of Chateauneuf terroir has it all with density, power, and complexity, but with uncommon finesse. The striking nose, full of wild raspberries, sage and stony terroir, leads to robust flavors of kirsch, cranberry and black pepper and a garrigue-infused, leathery, earthen finish. The wine's balance makes it approachable today but this is certainly a candidate for the cellar if you prefer.
