Billie Jean King has long been a champion for social change and equality. She created new in-roads for women in and out of sports during her legendary career where she continues to make her mark today. She was selected as "Outstanding Female Athlete of the World" in 1967 and was the first woman to be named Sports Illustrated "Sportsperson of the Year" in 1972, was honored with the renaming of the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 2006, and received the Medqal of Honor in 2009 by President Obama.
