Description
Bid to have your child attend a "Portfolio Day Camp" - Prep Week at the Westchester Fashion Academy for Children Day Camp presents "Prep Week" Day Camp! This is the kick off fashion day camp week July 9 - 13, 2012 that teaches children how to make a portfolio. This great foundation prepares the children in silhouettes, tissue textile, and selecting fabrics to be used and sketched. Denise Proctor and her instructors, open up their eyes to different fabric rendering and model poses. Learning to communicate your ideas through your sketching is very important in designing. They will take you through the journey of creating your own portfolio.
Denise Proctor founded the only fashion school in the county, the Westchester Fashion Academy for Children. Her students, who range in age from 6 to 17, are taught how to sketch, design, choose textiles, market, and manage a fashion shop. “I really make it a point that they understand everything about fashion because, believe me, when they get to an FIT, they’ll be way ahead. I just want them to have a really good, strong foundation.”
She’s taught at Parsons and the Pratt School of Design, and she even helped restructure the fashion design program at BOCES. Today, she’s finishing up her first semester teaching textile science in the fashion merchandising program at Westchester Community College. “I had to increase the enrollment because word of mouth among the students from the first week spread and everyone wanted to meet her,” says Phyllis Fein, associate professor of business and the curriculum chairperson of the fashion merchandising program. “Denise has a passion that is contagious.”
