Description

A nature lover and foodie at heart, I shoot what I am most passionate about the great outdoors and all things food. I have always felt an emotional connection to the natural world and see it as a form of visual expression. Fascinated by the timeless beauty of the earth, I am also amazed by the surprising detail I find in macro photography. In extreme close-ups, when the realism of a subject fades, its graphical essence can emerge instead a vibrant block of color, an uncommon shape, form, texture or line”even a pattern or abstract design can become visible. These scenes provide a vital connection back to the land for me, similar to capturing a grand vista or stunning landscape. I am exploring, seeing and discovering nature and by doing that, I am closer to it.

I am inspired by the power and complexity of the earth and at once, its simple beauty. I'm drawn to light and shadow and look for unique contrast and simple composition in my work.

Bio

I grew up just outside of Boston and went to Boston University where I received my BA in psychology. Before leaving for BU, my father gave me his old Canon camera which sparked my lifelong love of photography ”I was immediately hooked. After college, I moved across the country to the rugged coastline of northern California where I gained a deeper appreciation for the beauty of nature and photography as an art form. Primarily self-taught and driven by my passion for nature, I spent years photographing my natural surroundings and capturing ordinary subjects in unique ways. I began to focus on close-ups where I could discern more and more detail about my subject”its richness, texture, color”and wonder about its place in the world, and ultimately mine.

Though much of my work is inspired by my travels in and around Vermont, California, and Europe, I also enjoy the familiarity of my own backyard knowing I can always see ordinary things in new and unexpected ways through the lens of my camera. I currently live in Weston, Massachusetts with my husband and love to cook, ski and travel when I'm not outside taking pictures.
