Description

Rebecca Swanson's award winning photographs have been featured in exhibitions and galleries throughout the country.  She works with Jayne Baum, a New York City dealer, selling to Banana Republic stores, Charlotte Moss Interior Designs and Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, among others. While most of her work is found in private collections, it is also included in The Harry Ransom Research Center at the University of Texas (featuring one of the largest collections of photography in the world) and the St. Regis Hotel guest rooms in Buckshead, GA.

She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cleveland Institute of Art, and worked as a textile designer and print stylist in New York for years before pursuing her love of photography.

Painting brings back fond memories of sultry summer days in Ohio when my grandmother would try to teach a ten year old the fine art of china painting. We would sit for hours painting roses on mugs or pansies on plates. She showed me how to mix colors and paint impressionistically, from the heart.

Now, I paint with my camera. The flowers I "paint" are full of humanity, each with their own story - their own style and personality. Some flowers are bold, some shy, some grand, on the verge of royalty. I see myself in each of the flowers; my tutu giving a soft twirl in ballet or standing tall in the midst of adversity.

In a subtle way, my flowers are my self-portrait. Flowers allow me to look at myself and the world in which I live, find a place of peace, and see the universal beauty and fragility we all share.
