Description

As a child growing up in Switzerland my family and I spent many summers in a remote cabin in the alps. Besides spending much time reading books, my mother often told me wonderful stories of far away worlds full of fantastic characters. During the day I spent many hours exploring the alpine meadows in the company of these imaginary friends. Today many of my portraits are of characters who escaped from this fantasy world. They each carry with them their own unique story. While I have my version of story for each character I hope the imagery evokes the imagination of the viewer as to come up with their own background for each inhabitant. By capturing the character in my photograph I am able to stop them from aging just as in the famous childrens story.

BIO:
Diana Diriwaechter's Swiss education and traditional Swiss upbringing was practical and business oriented; however art in all its forms has always been a motivating factor in her life. In the US she chose special effects and computer animation as her career and graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Computer Art. After working for several years in advertising she landed a job at the academy award winning Blue Sky Studios.

Working at Blue Sky Studios as a lighting and materials technical director on 3D animated motion pictures such as, "Robots", "Ice Age: The Meltdown", and "Horton Hears A Who", gave Diana a cinematic approach to photography. Since then the camera lens has become her tool of expression in portraits and landscapes. Whether on location or working from her studio in Harlem, Diana explores life with her eye through her lens.
