Description
Let this wild woman artist share her photos, stories and songs with you! "Life's an adventure, it goes by fast. Life's very short but your dreams will last, years how we'll fly!"
Boston, MA- Mark Baxter, vocal coach of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Johnny Lang, Journey, the cast of Rent, The Goo Goo Dolls, as well as many other respected contemporary songwriters and singers, says of Pamela, "Her photos and music are journeys, doorways if you will, into Pamela Ruby Russell's technicolor dreams. Exotic, lush, intimate, passionate & fun!...a joy to experience, from beginning to end."
These words echo feelings voiced by Pamela's appreciative collectors and music audiences alike. A photographer, independent songwriter recording artist and writer, she was born in NYC. During the early 1970's Pamela learned about the camera from photographer, Myron Ehrenberg (Photographer for Infinity Magazine-IBM Corp). At the same time she studied drama, writing and jewelry making at Elizabeth Seton College and the New School of Social Research in NY. After a two year long adventure in the French West Indies, Pamela settled in Boston to study music and voice with Dante Pavone, Mark Baxter and pianist Michael Dooner. She participated in master classes including the "On Spontaneity" seminar on Lake Champlain led by famed pianist, Keith Jarrett. As she honed her musical skills Pamela documented her wild woman adventures in exotic far off lands, photographing the many sights and people she encountered along the way. Pamela learned even more about photography while being photographed and or working for Boston photographers, Roger Farrington, Shelburne Thurber and CJ Allen. Renowned photographers Annie Leibovitz and Richard Avedon have both photographed Ms Ruby.
In Ms. Ruby's words, "My personal approach to landscapes as well as people and animal portrait photography, is the same; to observe and capture those vulnerable, fleeting moments, the essence of my subject. I am grateful for my eyes and for the gift of being able to preserve and share how I see the world. Life is beautifully profound, though painfully fragile and so tragic at times. Intimately recording the authentic center of a subject, be it a large crowd, a simple seated portrait, a still life or landscape, I find this experience completely exhilarating. This is something I can do , with love, compassion and expertise."
"HIGHWAY OF DREAMS", Ms. Russell's independently produced CD now available on iTunes and many other online sites including Rhapsody, was co-produced by her, along with guitarist Peter Calo (records/performs with Carly Simon, Linda Eder, Andrea Bocelli & "Hairspray") "HIGHWAY OF DREAMS" features backing vocals by the UK's Robert Holmes (guitarist/writer/vocalist Aimee Mann's band 'till Tuesday) and also includes musicians from nine other nations. Pamela's lyrics and melodies are intricately laced with images from her many incarnations; photographer; writer;performer; producer/band manager; vocal coach; political/community activist; budding film maker and TV talk show host; Mexican circus elephant rider; cantina Tarot card reader; jewelry designer and poet in the French West Indies; Cape Cod restaurateur; last but not least, singing alone at midnight atop a sacred Mexican temple on Aug 15, 1987, the eve of the internationally observed "Harmonic Convergence." Her original song, "AVENUE OF TEARS" was written about that magical night. Ask Pamela about it sometime!
"There are common truths and we are not strangers. It is through the creation, sharing and teaching of honest thoughts and art, that long lasting, meaningful friendships, connections and communication between people are made possible. Making art that uplifts and heals is what I strive for. Life is short and sometimes deals us not so easy hands. The playing of those challenging cards, wisely and with compassion, helps us overcome difficulties, appreciate our gifts and move through our time on this lovely Earth in more graciously profound and useful way. It's about joy! With all I've seen in this life, what I've learned thus far must be worth sharing! That's why I am!" she says. Pamela has most certainly dedicated her life's energy and spirit to these principles.
