Wynton Marsalis is a man who wears many hats - trumpeter, composer, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, and music director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. But too often it's overlooked that he first came to fame with small bands: after getting started with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, he then made musical history with his own groundbreaking septet and quintet. No matter what size band he’s leading, Marsalis' music is always breathtakingly innovative and swinging.
