Description
A local treasure, Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) is a renowned resource center for preschool through high school science and mathematics education, and a public science center with exciting hands-on experiences for learners of all ages. The LHS offers interactive science exhibits, a discovery room with live animals, planetarium programs and special events that encourage visitors to learn about and enjoy science.
The current newest exhibition, Creatures of the Abyss, takes visitors on a virtual journey to the most inaccessible ecosystem on Earth – the deep ocean. Descend to the darkest depths of the ocean and discover some extraordinary, mysterious, and downright strange creatures. Entangle yourself in the tentacles of a life-sized model of a colossal squid -- the largest known species of squid! Step inside the Bioluminescence Theatre and find out how deep sea animals like hatchetfish, anglerfish, and black dragon fish produce fantastic colored light shows to lure prey and communicate in complete darkness. This exhibition runs through May 8, 2011. Beginning May 28, explore their world like never before in Dinosaurs Unearthed. Scientists, engineers, and artists designed these creatures to be as lifelike as possible. The gigantic animals open their jaws, blink their eyes, move their limbs and more.
Special Instructions
Each pass entitles bearer to one free family admission for up to 2 adults and their children up to age 18. Passes do not include additional programming fees for the Planetarium or special exhibitions. Expires 4/30/12.
