Brace for Impact: Miracle on the Hudson Survivors Share Their Stories of Near Death and Hope for New Life,

"Brace for impact." Three simple words that proclaimed to all 150 passengers on board US Airways Flight 1549 on that cold, crisp New York afternoon of January 15, 2009, that their plane was about to go down in the icy Hudson River. Three simple words that churned up their fear that the next two minutes would be their final moments on earth and spurred their most heartfelt, spontaneous prayers.

We all know about the stunning tale of survival against all odds that followed. But there is a different, more meaningful, and more timely story that has yet to be fully told. What happened to these passengers when they went home to their families, their homes, their jobs, and everything else familiar but somehow not the same? What has been the real impact, not of a disastrous crash but of a gift of a "new" life? What can any of us learn from the honest and open sharing of ordinary people who came back from the brink of death?

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Celebrating Mothers and Daughters

A must-read for mothers and daughters about the complexities, cherished moments, and greatest lessons they've learned in their relationships with each other.

This compilation includes stories about young women leaving home for the first time to attend college, how mothers and daughters at odds with each other learn to forgive and forget, and how one daughter comes to terms with saying goodbye. The relationship a mother and daughter shares is at times difficult, but in the end, it can be one of the most precious.

Chicken Soup for the Father and Son Soul: Celebrating the Bond That Connects Generations

Any man can be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad.

Chicken Soup for the Father and Son Soul takes a peek into the lives of fathers and sons, sharing the important male milestones from birth through childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, the senior years, and every step in between. This is a celebration of how fathers and sons carry each other along life's journey.

Share the story of one man who didn't think much of becoming a father until the day he laid eyes on his son, and how in a matter of moments his perspective on life and being a dad had profoundly changed forever, and the touching story of a young boy who finds the father he always longed for in a special stepdad, as well as the story of the love and respect between a father-in-law and son-in-law that appears when least expected.

Readers will be inspired by the stories of sons looking up to their fathers and learning by example and fathers recollecting their own childhoods and relationships with their own dads. These insightful stories show men and boys working through the ups and downs of life, learning as they go, and becoming better because of their relationship with each other.

Daughters and Mothers: Making it Work

The mother/daughter relationship is one of the most intense relationships a woman will ever experience; it is strong and primary. This first and essential relationship has a powerful, though often subtle, effect on an adult woman's interactions with her mate, children, friends, and herself. Often, this crucial bond, which was initially based in love, turns into one of anger, guilt, and resentment, the effects of which can permeate a woman's life, a burden from the past that is haunting, limiting, and debilitating.

In this profound book, coauthors Dorothy Firman and her mother Julie Firman, both psychotherapists who specialize in mother/daughter workshops, help readers sift through old behavior patterns, feelings, and thoughts to transform their relationships and, ultimately, themselves. For every woman who experiences pain in her relationship with her mother or daughter, there is the promise of finding joy. The Firmans will help readers grow beyond their limitations into more integrated, freer, and more fulfilled women, using stories from their own lives, case studies of other women, and practical, revealing workbook exercises.
