Special Instructions

Gray Park is a native of Stonington, CT.  Park started oil painting at a young age and majored in fine arts at the Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, CT.  In 1994 he received his BFA in Painting from The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where he focused on painting land and seascapes.  During his studies he developed an appreciation for the works of Fairfield Porter, Edward Hopper, George Nick and Wayne Thiebaud, and spent a year abroad painting the rugged coastline of Scotland and the countryside in England.

Gray continues to be inspired by the changing scenery of Barn Island in Stonington and the surrounding marshes of Connecticut and Rhode Island.  Although he maintains a studio in the Velvet Mill in Stonington, the majority of his paintings are done "en plein air", where Gray strives to capture the essence of the changing relationship between land and sea.

Since 1989, Gray has participated in fourteen group exhibitions, eight one-man shows, winning several major awards, including the Museum Purchase Award – 2009, Award of Excellence – 2005 and the Stobart Foundation Award – 2004 at The Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport, Mystic CT; Best In Show – 1995, Mystic Arts Center, Mystic, CT; and The Newton Perkins Medal – 1990, The Norwich Free Academy.  As a young emerging artist, Gray is a popular force among collectors.
