Description

A crystal captain's decanter from Solomon's Mines in Stonington, CT.  The winning bidder will also receive the gift of a bottle of Presidential Porto Tawny to make the package complete.

A carafe designed and crafted by Irish crystal masters (33% lead crystal), it celebrates Irish immigration over the centuries.  Reminiscent of shipboard life and the voyage to a new home, for most, the voyage from Ireland was undertaken under horrendous conditions.  But for the lucky few who had the money to travel first class, comfort was assured.  This included dining at the Captain's table, and enjoying a toast from the Captain's Decanter.  The Captain's Decanter is a spectacular work of art; a perfect replica.   The wide base ensured it would stay upright as the ship rocked form side to side.

PRESIDENTIAL PORTO:  Among the most sought after and desired of all the premium ports, are the prestigious AGED TAWNIES with an average age 10, 20, 30 and 40 years.  Each caveein this category is made up of wines of varying ages.  There is younger wine for vigor and freshness and older wine for complexity and breeding.  The aroma and flavor characteristics are in the hands of a master blender who strives to create a wine with a unique personality that is consistent year after year.  Presidential aged Tawny Port...matured in wood for 20 years and presented in a handsome Ship's Decanter is a superb example of this glorious wine.
