In 1964, Paul Barber and two partners bought 2/3rds of an acre of land, east of the village of Mystic on Old Stonington Road, and with the help of a local carpenter built a fresh fish market. Paul opened The Cove Fish Market with the goal of providing the highest quality, local fish and seafood. Today, 48 years after its launch The Cove has become a Stonington institution.  an article “Making the Most of Mystic” in the New York Times, recommended “The best place in Mystic to buy seafood from the boat is The Cove. ” This reputation for the finest quality fish continues with the new owner Andrew Kowal and the Operations Manager William Overton. We have won consecutive awards for the Best Fish Sandwich (Connecticut Magazine 2008, 2009 & 2010) and are committed to our guests on a year-round basis.
