In 1995, Kevin Hicks, the founder of Ephraim Faience Pottery, was working as a potter for a commercial production manufacturer.

His frustration with the lack of creativity in his job and the demands of mass production echoed the same discontentment experienced by the nineteenth-century Arts and Crafts potters. Seeking more satisfying work and an aesthetic he could embrace, Kevin founded Ephraim Faience Pottery in July 1996.
