The New York Times praised the Met's performance of "Rodelinda":
"The radiant soprano Renée Fleming, in the title role, and the entrancing countertenor David Daniels lead the Met's superb cast. But it's the work itself, as staged by Stephen Wadsworth and conducted by Harry Bicket, both in their Met debuts, that should entice audiences to this landmark production, only the fourth Handel opera in the company's history.
"Rodelinda," first performed in 1725, has long been considered one of Handel's greatest works, and rightly so. Handel shows stunning skill at conveying the psychological complexities of his characters, who form uneasy romantic and political alliances as they angle to make a claim on the throne, or find a little comfort in a dangerous society."
