KHADEN: Fine Tibetan Carpets
Owned and operated by a third generation Tibetan refugee family, KHADEN began life when Woeser Choeden began weaving rugs to support four daughters with whom she escaped persecution after occupation of her homeland by Chinese Communist forces in 1959. Today, KHADEN brings directly to you, fine rugs made by the family in Nepal.
Woven by master weavers, KHADEN's rugs contain as much as 15,000 knots per sq. foot. The nimble art of hand-knotting rugs lives on in Nepal where this dying art-form is still practiced. Using the finest virgin Himalayan wool, each weaver puts in up to 14 man hours to weave one sq. foot. With welfare such as housing, utilities, primary healthcare, and schooling of weaver's children provided, we ensure our products are free of exploited labor.
Using the finest Swiss fast dyes, our rugs are produced from a color bank of over six hundred shades. Moreover, exact shades of colors can be reproduced to match fabric, paint, stones, wood and tiles.
