About the "Circle"

The Annisquam Sewing Circle began in 1837 as the Annisquam Female Benevolent Society. In their preamble they wrote: “It is a duty we owe our fellow creatures who are placed in destitute circumstances, to bestow on them part of this world’s goods with which kind providence has blessed us…to visit the widow and fatherless, to feed the hungry and clothe the naked.”

To celebrate our 175th anniversary, we decided to produce a cookbook with our members' favorite recipes. The proceeds from the sale of this cookbook will be used for support of our community, thereby continuing the intent of our founders.  If they were here today, we trust they would be proud of our 74 members and their dedication to supporting the original purpose of the Annisquam Benevolent Society for 175 years and beyond.
