Description
Winning bidder will receive 3 one-hour-long reading sessions with Certified Reading Specialist Chris Mandell, for children ages 4 and up who read at OR BELOW a second grade level. This offer is valid for parents to purchase for their children, not for teachers to purchase for their students.
About Chris:
Chris is a certified reading specialist with an M.Ed. in Reading Education and a B.A. in English, summa cum laude. She has been trained in three phonics methods: Phono-Graphix, Lindamood, and Orton Gillingham. She works with beginning readers, remedial readers, and special needs students (without severe behavior problems). She has had great success with teaching kids to read, and can provide excellent references. Formerly, she worked as a tutor with "The Learning Lab @ Lesley University, where parents were charged $65 per 50 minutes of her tutoring time. Now in private practice, she charges only $35 per hour.
She is a published poet, and has written a series of children's stories that are designed to teach children how to read. She incorporates lots of games, toys, and students' own stories into her lessons for a child-friendly approach.
She has also taught elementary and preschool. Chris works exclusively on Beginning Reading Skills, at or below 2nd grade level. She works with children as young as 4, with the majority of her students ranging from ages 4-9. The first session includes an evaluation of your child's reading level and the subsequent two sessions would consist of lessons that were based on the results of the assessment. In the case of 4-5 year olds, she would substitute an extra reading lesson for the assessment. All lessons should occur within 5 weeks after the date of the auction winner's final transactiion.
Sessions are held at Chris's house in West Roxbury, MA. She has cats, so if your child is allergic this offer wouldn't be suitable for bid. One parent may observe all three lessons.

All winning bidders will be charged a transaction fee of 5%, not to exceed $20 per item, to cover a portion of the auction transaction fees.

*Chris is offering 3 sets of tutoring sessions to three different families/bidders. If one family has more than one child for whom they want reading lessons then it would be OK for them to bid on more than one set of lessons.
