Description
The Blue Oak Vineyard is located in one of the hottest “new” areas of the Napa Valley called Coombsville. It is new in the sense that the Coombsville area is being considered by the TTB as an AVA (American Viticultural Area). But those in the industry have known for a long time that stellar brands like Silver Oak and Far Niente have grown grapes in this region for decades. It sits just east of the City of Napa on a plateau under the imposing Mt. George.
Geologists theorize that Blue Oak, which currently sits at the very top of a large Coombsville knoll, was once on the valley floor. But millenniums ago, a major earthquake caused the mountain side of Mt. George to collapse, thereby pushing the valley floor up to the sky. This gives Blue Oak the advantage of rich volcanic soil typical of the surrounding valley floor composition, but now sits at 500 feet above sea level. This Coombsville knoll top has a unique micro climate with its cool nights and hot days that produces world class grapes sought after by many prestigious Napa cult wines such as Vineyard 29, Lail, Arietta and Favia.
From a small three-acre vineyard, Blue Oak embraces the rich full bodied character of the Coombsville region while still holding true to its elegant varietal distinctions. Sweet cedar spice aromas are complimented by toasted oak and vanilla scents in the bouquet. Ripe cherry and berry notes balance the firm tannins of this wine on the palate. The wine has a long finish of dried red fruit.
