About the Kay Dee II
Designed and built during the roaring twenties by and for Quent Williams, Commodore of the Seattle Yacht Club in 1922. Mr, Williams possessed both the skill and money to make Kay Dee II the most exquisite little yacht ever built. This is a show winning boat and creates a lot of attention wherever she goes She is 36 feet in length and has a beam of 8 feet 3 inches with a transom stern. This is a slim shape that moves through the water with little turbulence and this design allows her to cruise effortlessly at 10 to 14 knots and sprint right up to 20 knots too. In 1925 a 20 to 30 knot boat was considered insanely fast and only experienced by maniacal, leather jacketed, goggled, silk scarf wearing speed boat drivers of the day. Kay Dee was designed and built to delight the lubberly friends and family crowd. Most express cruisers of the day were only capable of 8 knots to 10 knots. Originally built on oak frames with 7 inch centers and then double-planked with cedar and mahogany, Kay Dee was restored with a 4 layer, cold molded process over her original double-planking, making her extremely strong and virtually leak free. Restored to better than new show condition in 1996 by Peter London, a master boat builder who would settle for nothing less than perfection and has been meticulously maintained ever since. Kay Dee II is arguably the best traditional express cruiser ever built. She handles rough seas or placid lakes with ease.
