Description

Side by side, women in bright straw hats cover a beautiful hand-loomed tapestry by master weaver Efrain Curi. Dark braids hang down their backs and their shoulders to form an intricate honey comb motif. 5.3' H x 2' W.  Signed by artist Efrain Curi.

Born in the state of Huancavelica, Efrain Curi first learned the flat weave technique in his uncle's workship, in what is a family craft.  Finding words to express his thoughts and ideas is difficult for Curi since his first language is Quechua, but he speaks eloquently thru his work.

Curi prefers natural fibers such as wool and cotton tinted with natural and artificial dyes.  His tool is the handloom and he usually weaves in the company of his family.  The children find it fun to help out, and Curi hopes to eventually teach them all he knows about weaving.
