Description

Beautiful handcrafted green/gold/white crocheted rope lei in braided design.

Lei of Old Hawaii were typically made of feathers, shells, seeds, bone, hair and teeth as well as leaves, vines and flowers of every kind. They were symbols of love, healing and respect and were treasured by people of all ages. Lei greetings for visitors to the islands gained popularity in the late 1800's with the arrival of steam ships and continue today for visitors arriving by both ship and plane.

Today the ancient tradition continues. Modern lei-makers now incorporate the techniques of Hawaii's many cultures and utilize all sorts of natural materials, including flowers from all over the world. Lei are made with money, candy and all sorts of materials born out of the creativity of the maker.

The beautiful keepsake lei at Kona Leis are carefully hand-made by local artist Robin Bush.  Each lei is unique, created with ribbon and yarn and embellishments making no two exactly alike.  The lei can be worn or framed as a spectacular art piece for your home.  Robin's lei grace many of the finer homes of the Big Island, Maui, and Kaua'i.

Robin lives in Kailua-Kona and when not practicing her craft, she is enjoying the Big Island lifestyle with her dog, Kayt. The lei is a undeniable symbol of Hawai'iand she wants to extend her aloha spirit to you and welcome you to our beautiful island.

It is the artist's desire for you to experience a priceless piece of history and tradition with one of her forever-lei to keep or share with someone you love.

These lei may be worn or placed in a framed shadowbox.  They make a great piece of art work for your home as well as a wonderful gift for someone to wear.

Robin can be found monthly at the Kokua Kailua Stroll on Ali'i Drive.  Visit her there as well!
