Description
Shane Victorino Autographed Baseball. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity.
Shane Victorino, centerfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, was born November 30, 1980, in Maui, Hawaii. Known as the "Flyin' Hawaiian," for his lightning quick speed and a dynamic switch hitting bat, Victorino's tremendous athleticism allows him to play all three outfield positions, with most of his playing time coming in centerfield.
Victorino is one of only a few Maui natives to play in the major leagues. In 1999, he was drafted directly out of St. Anthony's High School, where he was a four-sport all-star (football, soccer, track and baseball), in the 6th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In 2005, Victorino joined the Phillies organization and became the first-ever triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre player to be named International League Most Valuable Player. He also received the Red Barons Player of the Year and Community Service awards. That season he also led all minor-league players on triples, had a 22-game hitting streak, hit home runs from both sides of the plate in one game, earned a spot on the International League postseason All-Star team and was named to USA Baseball's 2005 Regional Olympic Qualifying team. Victorino became a starting player midway through the 2006 season. On June 3, 2007 the Phillies celebrated "Shane Victorino Day" with Victorino hula figurines, and flew his father in from Maui for the game.
With Victorino, the Phillies clinched the World Series Championship in 2008, their first in nearly 30 years. In the NLDS Game 2 that season, Victorino hit his first ever grand slam in the major leagues. In 2009, the Phillies won the National League Championship and Victorino won the All-Star Game Final Vote with a record breaking 15.6 million votes. He was named the 33rd member of the National League's All-Star team; the first Hawaiian-born positional player to be named to an All-Star team. That same year, Victorino was awarded the Rawlings' Gold Glove for the second straight time.
