Description
Although mostly self-taught, aviation artist Domenic DeNardo received formal art training at the Rhode Island School of Design and also studied engineering at the University of Rhode Island. As an illustrator, his art has been published in periodicals including Aviation Week & Space Technology, Business & Commercial Aviation, Commuter Air, Time, Wall Street Journal, etc. His paintings have been selected for exhibition and awards by the EAA, CAE SimuFlite/Flying Magazine “Horizons of Flight," New England Air Museum, the Providence Art Club, and the American Society of Aviation Artists.
You're looking at the start of a marathon of flying for two British pilots, William Scott and Campbell Black. Here, the artist depicts them taking off from Mindenhall, England in their DeHavilland Comet "Grosvenor House" at the start of the 1934 Mac Robertson Air Race. The team won, arriving in Melbourne, Australia, after nearly 71 hours in flight.
