Description

"The Stone flower" is the eighth plate in “The Russian Legends”, a collection of limited-edition porcelain plates created by Master Artist Valeryi Vasilievich Bolshakov.  This plate is produced in layers of pigment and gold in an edition limited to a maximum of 195 firings.

Inspired by a folk tale from the Ural Mountains, this is the legend of Danilo, a young stone cutter who seeks out the Mistress of Copper Mountain to learn how to carve stones into flowers that looked as if they were real. Depicted here, is Danilo and the Mistress of Copper Mountain and a most beautiful flower carved out of stone.
