Two Tickets to the Tia Fuller Quartet at the Vermont Jazz Center
February 11th at 8pm, including a back stage meet and greet and
photo with Tia. Autographed copy of her CD, Decisive Steps. Among today's hottest young musicians, saxophonist/flutist Tia Fuller combines her immaculate precision with harmonic exploration and endless energy that make her performances must-see events. A member of the band touring with R&B superstar Beyonce, Fuller is equally dynamic strutting on a funky
pop riff on a stadium stage, or fronting her own quartet at a jazz festival. Her third album, Pillar of Strength (2010), gives an indication of Fuller's vast musical vocabulary as a composer while demonstrating her strengths as a bandleader and arranger, balancing the contributions of bassist Christian McBride, trumpeter Sean Jones and others. Fuller has performed on five continents, touring with the Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra, the T.S. Monk Septet, the Nancy Wilson Jazz Orchestra, and her own group.
Autographed copy of saxophonist Hailey Niswanger’s first CD, Confeddie and t-shirt advertising the documentary …but can she play? …
but can she play?, directed by LA journalist Janice Rhoshalle Littlejohn, is the first feature-length documentary centered on the lives and music of women sax and brass players who are challenging gender biases and influencing the transformation of contemporary American jazz. The film spotlights a year-in-the-life alto saxophonist Hailey Niswanger. She embodies musical
gifts and accomplishments far exceeding her 21 years. The alto saxophonist was selected to join the internationally acclaimed Either Orchestra in 2009. In June of that year, Hailey’s recording debut, Confeddie, established her as a leader throughout North America. She was a featured artist at the Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in 2008 where she won the festival’s saxophone competition. A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Hailey was a charter member of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI), where she has been featured at the Newport, Monterey, Puerto Rico and
Panama jazz festivals.
