Golf for two at the beautiful Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, CA - includes lunch.

Brief History of Virginia Country Club

The Virginia Country Club was formed in November of 1909 by a group of prominent Long Beach citizens.  The golf course originally opened for play in April of 1910 on the site that is now Long Beach Recreation Golf Course located on 7th Street and Pacific Coast Highway.  In 1921, the Club moved to its present location in the Los Cerritos section of Long Beach where it exists today as an historical landmark tucked away in a remarkably beautiful part of Long Beach.  The tree lined entrance leads to just one of the many stunning scenes offered by Virginia Country Club.

The Club was built on approximately 160 acres of land.  Albert Warren Tillinghast was one of the original golf course architects, and despite a number of modifications throughout the years, the golf course remains true to the original vision Tillinghast had for the Club.  The Virginia Country Club not only has a heritage of all that dazzling color quality which was California’s in the era before statehood, but is carrying out much of the friendliness and good fellowship which was so prominent in the olden days.

Built on the site of the old Los Cerritos Hacienda, the remodeled clubhouse has been taken back to the early look.  The Virginia Country Club has made every effort to keep not only the “country club” ideals, but to keep the traditions associated with the Los Cerritos area.

Measuring nearly 6,900 yards in length, our par 71 golf course is among a notable family of Tillinghast designed championship golf courses, including Baltusrol GC, Medinah CC, Bethpage State Park, Pine Valley CC, San Francisco GC, Stanford University GC, Inverness Club, and Winged Foot Golf Club.  Virginia Country Club is characterized by its hilly terrain, smallish greens, strategically placed bunkers, and numerous unique shot-making opportunities.

Today, as always, the standards at Virginia Country Club—owned by its 415 limited membership—are second to none for both social entertainment and athletic purposes.
