About the artist:

Nancy Kolodny Ceramic Artist

When I was 9, my family drove coast to coast to see America. The Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls were cool but it was a window filled with navy blue and white Asian dishes in Chinatown, San Francisco that made my heart leap. I fell in love. The years passed - I loved being mother to a wonderful daughter and working as a corporate executive. I never stopped searching for blue and white ceramics, hoping to recapture that illusive joy. I finally mustered up the courage to paint a plate. When it was done, as embryonic as the piece was, I realized that what I was looking for was in that navy blue and white geometric plate which had come out of me, as an artist.

In today’s extraordinarily complex world, my work reflects simple geometry. I use ceramics as the medium, or canvas, to express simplicity, balance and harmony. Each piece can stand alone or they are additive, as each piece builds on the others. As I grew as an artist, my house was overrun with navy blue and white pieces of pottery. I have expanded to new shapes, colors and textures. All my work is made by hand in my home studio in Los Angeles. Every step in the process reflects my consciousness of the impact on the environment.
