At 4:PM EST on July 20, 1969 Neil A. Armstrong set foot on the surface of the Moon, telling millions of listeners that it was "one small step for man-one giant step for Mankind." Moonwalkers Armstrong and Aldrin had left behind an American flag and other mementos, including a plaque bearing the inscription "Here Men for Earth first set foot upon the Moon, July 20, 1969 A.D., We came in peace for all Mankind."
