Harriet Quimby: America's First Land of the Air
If you were to ask most people today, "Who was the first American Woman to earn a pilot's license?" or "Who was the first women to piolot a plan across the English Channel?", they would probably answer, "Amelia Earhart."
But the woman woh really did these things did them almost twenty years before Amelia Earhear even learned to fly a plane.  The first licensed pilot was Harriet Quimby!
The United States Postal Service honored Quimby in 1991 with a United States Airmail Stamp for "Harriet Quimby: Pioneer Pilot." Since that time the public has become eager to find out more about "The Bird Girl" pictured on the stamp and on the fron of this book.
