Join Rich MacDonald and Natalie Springuel for a wonder-filled 1/2 day nature tour on MDI!


Rich MacDonald, along with wife Natalie, is co-owner of
The Natural History Center. All of their educational programs weave local ornithology and ecology into the course content.A lifelong birder, naturalist, and field biologist, Rich is usually found outdoors with binoculars strapped over his shoulder. He has long studied boreal birds and waterbirds, and led bird tours throughout North America and beyond, as well. In recent years, Rich has served as lead naturalist for Garrison Keillor on each of the four cruises of National Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion. A dedicated outdoor adventurer, Rich also instructs sea kayaking, white-water kayaking, canoeing, and telemark skiing.


Natalie Springuel also has served as lead naturalist for Garrison Keillor on the cruises of National Public Radio’s Prairie Home Companion. Natalie combines her passions for the marine environment and coastal heritage with her love of teaching and adventure to help people discover ocean and coastal environments. As a Master Maine Guide for sea kayaking and recreation, she has led thousands of visitors by land and by sea. Natalie’s full-time position is as a marine extension associate for the University of Maine's Sea Grant College Program which focuses on the sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources through research and education.
