Featured on handmade Nepali lokta (daphne) paper this colorful painting is born from the traditional painting of lively designs by Maithili women on the walls of their homes in honor of festivals and wedding rituals. Created in conjunction with The Janakpur Women's Development Center, this painting and the others in this series, were used as a vehicle for the empowerment of Maithili women in Nepal by blending art and tradition. The JWDC is the first NGO in Nepal to use traditional painting as a means to empower women and provides training in literacy, management, leadership, gender awareness and basic business skills.
