Encaustic and mixed media on board painting, 16" x 16". Alison Trujillo (née Epstein) HRS '97, is a San Francisco-based artist and educator. Her work draws upon the rich variety and experiences of the natural environment. She has also worked and traveled extensively throughout Spain and Latin America and these moments inspire much of her subject matter and color choices. Alison's paintings explore form and color. She will often simplify the shape and line of everyday objects, an appreciation of the small details that surround us each day. New ideas for work come from observing and sketching plants while hiking, botanical illustrations, and the photos she takes around the city and in nature. Different colors than seen in the natural world are an exploration of the feelings that may arise when seeing a familiar object in a new light; color is also a way to express emotion about a particular place or experience. Alison currently paints primarily with acrylics and encaustics.
