HRS SUMMER PROGRAM: Transition to Middle School Math

Description
Developed and taught by HRS veteran teachers, Transition to Middle School Math is a 3-week, self-contained morning program (8:30 -- 12:00) for rising 6th graders. The primary purpose is to provide transitional support by previewing upcoming math challenges in the Head-Royce 6th Grade curriculum on a foundation review of essential skills. Areas for review will include 4-Operations with positive integers, fractions and decimals; expressing and evaluating patterns with variables; basic geometric formulas; basic data sets and graphing. The areas for preview will include estimation; 4-Operations with positive and negative integers, fractions and decimals; evaluating equations with multiple variables; formulas & properties; angle identification and basic constructions; data collection, verification and sampling; probability of simple events; problem solving strategy; and more. Great alone or in combination with afternoon athletics or workshops in the arts & technology for a unique summer balance. Full-day options available (7:30 AM -- 6:00 PM). Choose one 2012 session: Session I (June 18 -- July 6) or Session II (July 9 -- July 27). Minimum enrollment of 10 required for course to run (last year we reached maximum capacity of 20 students).
