Description
Come build robots this summer with award-winning Head Royce students! A small, but experienced group of high school student engineers will be running a camp this summer called, "Competitive Robot Building by Galaxy Robotics." This camp is geared towards middle and high school students who want to build and program robots just for fun or for competition!
Competitive Robot Building by Galaxy Robotics. Build your own tournament quality robot! Galaxy Robotics® is offering this active, hands-on workshop teaching robot design, skills, component selection, gearing, drive trains, sensors, wiring, robotic arms, competition strategy, team building, and robot programming. Using the VEX Design System, a system that is widely used for more sophisticated competitive robots in STEM educational programs (http://www.vexrobotics.com/ ), students will be placed on a robot building team of only 3 students per robot and design and build their own team robots. Students may register for individual weeks but students enrolling for a second or third consecutive week will benefit most as each week utilizes the skills learned in the prior week with 3 consecutive weeks of camp ideal for learning the full VEX Design System and building a sophisticated robot. Campers are welcome to register individually and will be placed on teams with students of similar age and experience. We will try to place students from the same school, or who register with friends, on the same team. Middle school and high school students are especially invited to participate. Younger students will be admitted depending on space and prior experience.
Male and female instructors all have extensive experience building robots and all have been invited to compete with their robots in the VEX World Championships in spring, 2012.
For those campers who are interested in pursuing competitive robotics further, this summer camp will provide a head start in building a robot that can compete in the VEX national and international competition season which begins in the fall. For the 2011 game, visit http://www.vexforum.com/wiki/index.php/Gateway.
Teams will be permitted to purchase their robot for the cost of materials at the end of their sessions.
Neither Galaxy Robotics nor its instructors are affiliated with or sponsored by VEX.
